[Korea] Protecting Data Centers and IT Facilities with Biometric Access Control

THE CUSTOMER

Gwacheon Knowledge & Information Town is one of South Korea’s emerging technology business districts, home to a growing cluster of IT, telecommunications, cloud, and digital infrastructure companies.

Within this district, several tenant organizations have implemented Suprema access control solutions to secure critical business environments, including offices, server rooms, data centers, and restricted infrastructure areas.

The deployments include companies such as Gabia, Sejong Telecom, and Megazone, each operating in technology-driven industries where reliable access control and strict identity verification are essential.

➊ Gabia is an IT platform company providing domain registration, hosting, cloud, and groupware services.

➋ Sejong Telecom is a telecommunications provider offering network infrastructure, data center, cloud, and IoT services.

➌ Megazone is a leading cloud managed service provider delivering cloud operations, IT infrastructure, and managed services.

Together, these deployments demonstrate how Suprema supports technology companies that require secure, scalable, and identity-driven access control for mission-critical environments.

THE CHALLENGE

Technology companies operating in Gwacheon Knowledge & Information Town manage sensitive business environments where access security is directly connected to data protection, operational continuity, and infrastructure reliability.

For organizations such as cloud service providers, telecommunications companies, and IT platform operators, restricted areas such as server rooms, data centers, network facilities, and internal infrastructure zones require stronger protection than conventional access control methods can provide.

Traditional RF card-based systems presented clear limitations. Cards can be shared, lost, or used by unauthorized individuals, making it difficult to verify whether the person entering a restricted area is the actual authorized user.

Each organization needed a more secure and reliable access control approach that could strengthen identity verification, reduce the risks associated with card-only access, and support strict security policies for critical infrastructure environments.

At the same time, the solution had to remain convenient for authorized employees and scalable enough to support different operational requirements across multiple companies and facilities.

THE SOLUTION

To address these security requirements, Suprema provided an integrated access control platform based on BioStar 2, which offers advanced access control features such as centralized management, real-time monitoring, and granular authorization, combined with multi-factor authentication (MFA) technologies including facial authentication, mobile access, and RFID.

Suprema’s solutions are deployed across key access points, with a particular focus on high-security areas such as server rooms and data centers. By applying biometric-based authentication, the system strengthens identity verification and helps prevent unauthorized access to critical infrastructure.

At the same time, the platform enables each tenant to independently enforce its own access policies, ensuring strict and consistent security control across critical infrastructure and sensitive areas.

Each organization leverages the system according to its operational needs:

Gabia:

➊ Uses facial authentication (BioStation 3) and RFID (Xpass D2) at main entrances for both employees and visitors.

➋ Manages access levels and schedules centrally through BioStar 2, enabling consistent control across all facilities including datacenters.

Sejong Telecom:

➊ Applies facial authentication (BioStation 3) at main entrance speed gates.

➋ Extends access control to elevators, office areas, datacenters, and shared spaces.

➌ Integrates all devices through BioStar 2 to operate a centralized, building-wide system.

Megazone:

➊ Deploys facial authentication (BioStation 3) at entrance speed gates, office areas and datacenters.

➋ Integrates all access points with BioStar 2 for streamlined access management.

KEY BENEFITS

➊ Enhanced security through facial authentication, reducing reliance on RF cards and enabling accurate, identity-based access control for each user.

➋ Strengthened protection of critical infrastructure such as data centers and server rooms through strict identity verification and controlled access to sensitive areas, allowing each organization to define and apply security rules aligned with its own requirements.

➌ Efficient security operations with real-time monitoring, centralized user management, and zone-based access control, ensuring controlled and auditable access across high-security areas.

➍ Improved user convenience with fast and contactless facial authentication, enabling seamless access for authorized employees and visitors.
